Dolmen de Cubillejo de Lara, Neolithic dolmen in Mambrillas de Lara, Spain.
The Dolmen of Cubillejo de Lara is a burial chamber built from large stones in northern Spain. The structure consists of a circular chamber roughly 6.5 meters across and a roughly 10.5-meter-long passageway made of massive stone blocks.
The burial site was built around 3000 BCE when early farming communities settled in this region. It served as a shared burial ground for these groups over an extended period.
The burial site was equipped with objects that came from distant regions. Shell ornaments and beads suggest that early inhabitants of this area maintained contact with groups living near the Mediterranean.
The dolmen sits where two streams meet and is easily reached by foot. Visitors can walk to the site from the nearby villages of Cubillejo de Lara or Mazariegos.
The passageway is oriented so that the winter solstice sunrise shines directly into the burial chamber. This astronomical alignment reveals that the builders possessed detailed knowledge of solar positions.
