Depósito de agua de la Fiesta del Árbol, Water tower complex in Albacete, Spain
The Depósito de agua de la Fiesta del Árbol is a water storage facility in Albacete comprising a rectangular basement reservoir and a cylindrical tower standing 70 meters tall. The structure houses exhibition spaces, a library, an auditorium, and an observation platform at the top.
Construction began in 1935 but was interrupted during the Spanish Civil War, resuming in 1940 and finishing in 1944. The facility was completed but the water distribution system never became fully operational.
The site houses an interpretation center dedicated to water, where visitors can learn about the resource and its role in urban life. Displays and exhibits reflect how the community relates to this essential element.
Access to the facility is available by elevator or stairs, and guided visits can be arranged in advance through Aguas de Albacete. The observation deck provides views across the city from the tower's height.
Although designed as a water storage system, the facility was later repurposed as a cultural and educational center rather than operating for its original function. This transformation preserved the building and gave it a new role for the community.
