Palau Centelles, Gothic palace in Gothic Quarter, Spain
Palau Centelles is a Gothic palace in the Gothic Quarter with three exterior facades built from Montjuïc stone. Inside stands a rectangular courtyard with a covered staircase designed as a gallery structure.
Lluís de Centelles built this residence at the end of the 15th century on a site that previously held a 13th-century structure. The new construction replaced the older building as the family updated their property to reflect contemporary standards.
The building displays features from two periods: late Gothic window details alongside Renaissance stone carvings on the walls. This blend reflects how architectural tastes evolved among local nobility over time.
The palace stands at the intersection of Baixada de Sant Miquel and Carrer dels Gegants and currently serves as government offices. Visitors should note this is an active administrative building and may not be openly accessible to the public.
The main facade features a 15th-century arched portal that preserves the original stonework from that era. During the 19th century, the first section of arcade structures was added, giving the building another layer of architectural development.
