Homenatge als castellers, Steel monument in Gothic Quarter, Spain
The Homenatge als castellers monument consists of twelve stainless steel tubes measuring ten centimeters in diameter, reaching a height of 26.5 meters.
The monument was approved by the Sculpture Advisory Council during Joan Clos's mandate in September 2004 and inaugurated on February 12, 2012.
The steel structure represents the tradition of human towers, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in November 2010.
Located in Plaça de Sant Miquel near Barcelona City Hall, the monument stands on a concrete base measuring 12 by 12 meters.
The steel tubes intertwine to double the height of regular human towers, symbolizing the continuous advancement of castell builders.
