Barcelona a Prim, Memorial statue in Parc de la Ciutadella, Barcelona, Spain
The bronze equestrian statue portrays General Joan Prim in military uniform with his hat in hand, standing on a rectangular pedestal near Barcelona Zoo entrance.
The original monument from 1887 was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and replaced with a replica by sculptor Frederic Marès in 1948.
Two bronze reliefs on the pedestal display important military achievements: the Battle of Castillejos and the signing of the Convention of La Soledad.
The memorial is accessible via Arc de Triomf metro station on line L1 or Ciutadella Vila Olimpica station on line L4.
The bronze used for the original statue came from mortars sourced at Montjuïc Castle, connecting military history with artistic creation.
