Church of Santa María, Tordesillas

Church of Santa María is a Gothic church building in Tordesillas with a single nave divided into four sections, featuring Tuscan pilasters and barrel vaults throughout its interior space. The vaults are decorated with classical plasterwork that displays refined artistic detail across the structure.

The building occupies the site of a former mosque and displays a blend of Gothic and Escorial architectural styles that developed through renovations between the 16th and 18th centuries. This period of transformation shaped the structure's appearance and character for subsequent generations.

The church hosts several religious brotherhoods that remain active during Tordesillas' Holy Week celebrations, and houses processional figures such as the Virgin of Solitude and Christ of Mercy that are carried through the town during local festivities.

The building features three entrance doors, though only the main entrance is actively used by visitors and worshippers today. Look for the primary portal to find your way into the church with ease.

The church tower features a clock with bronze allegories of the four seasons integrated into its mechanism, a detail that locals call the 'loose clock' because of its distinctive character. This mechanical feature combines timekeeping with artistic representation in an unusual way.
