Recinte de Torribera, Noucentisme architectural complex in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain.
Recinte de Torribera is a Noucentisme architectural complex with multiple pavilions arranged on the slopes of Serra de Marina. The buildings are organized around a central pedestrian axis with formal landscaping that connects the various structures.
The property originated as a medieval farmstead and underwent reconstruction in the 18th century before evolving into a modern institution. The Mancomunitat de Catalunya acquired it in 1922 to establish a mental health facility.
The buildings showcase the Noucentisme architectural movement through their balanced proportions and decorative details in stone and tile. These design principles remain visible today in the symmetrical layout and the carefully crafted facades across the complex.
The grounds now house academic and medical institutions including a Barcelona University campus and healthcare facilities. Parts of the complex function as active workspaces, so access may be restricted to certain areas during business hours.
The entire grounds are supported by a system of agricultural terraces that connect the platforms between the pavilions. This ingenious network preserves the original landscape structure and shows how the design adapted to the natural slope.
