Bullring of Antequera

The Bullring of Antequera is an arena with white limestone columns, semicircular arches, and a roof covered in traditional tiles. The interior holds tiered seating around a central oval space, with an attached exhibition displaying artifacts and historical documents.

Construction started in 1848 with wooden upper stands that remained largely unchanged for decades. The city took over the building in the 1980s and carried out a comprehensive renovation.

The arena embodies a long relationship between the town and this tradition, with historic craftsmanship visible in its architectural details. Visitors encounter artworks and artifacts that reveal how this Spanish practice evolved through the centuries.

Access is through Paseo María Cristina, where visitors can enter the arena throughout the day. Guided tours are available year-round and provide insight into the structure and history of the site.

The main entrance door was rebuilt in 1984 using architectural elements inspired by 18th-century local building styles. This blend of historical reference and modern construction is a detail that rewards close attention.
