Institut Tomàs Dolsa, Mental health institute in Les Corts, Spain.
Institut Tomàs Dolsa is a mental health facility featuring neoclassical architecture with symmetrically designed wings in the Les Corts district. The structure was later converted into a contemporary medical center housing multiple clinical services.
The facility was established in 1863 and relocated to Les Corts in 1867 for improved water quality and climate conditions. It operated as a psychiatric institution until 2000, when it underwent significant redevelopment.
The facility represented a turning point in how Spain approached mental health care, moving away from older treatment methods toward more progressive practices.
The site is now open to the public and houses a modern medical center with multiple clinical departments. The original neoclassical architecture remains visible and continues to define the appearance of the complex.
A metal sculpture titled Boogie-Woogie by Antoni Roselló was installed on the grounds in 2008 to mark the site's transformation. This contemporary artwork creates an interesting contrast with the historic architecture and signals the beginning of its new purpose.
