The monument displays King Pelayo holding the Victory Cross, standing at 2.80 meters tall and weighing four tons.

Created in 1891 by José María López Rodríguez, the statue uses bronze from Moroccan cannons captured during the 1859-1860 Spanish-Moroccan War.

The four sides of the pedestal contain inscriptions honoring Pelayo as the restorer of Spanish freedom and religion against Arab rule.

The statue stands near Revillagigedo Palace, providing visitors an opportunity to explore multiple historical sites in the surrounding area.

The monument incorporates the Victory Cross, which appears on the flag of Asturias, connecting regional symbolism with national history.
