Antiguo Instituto de Jovellanos

The Antiguo Instituto de Jovellanos is a neoclassical building in Gijón with a square layout measuring approximately 46 meters per side and a central courtyard. The stone facade displays minimal decorative elements and clean architectural lines.

The building was designed by architect Juan de Villanueva and constructed in 1797 as an educational institution. Between 1887 and 1892, Ricardo Marcos Bausá added two additional floors, significantly altering the original structure.

The building operates as a cultural center hosting art exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs throughout the year for visitors of all ages. Its spaces serve the community as a venue for artistic exchange and creative work.
