Parroquia de San Ginés de Padriñán

Parroquia de San Ginés de Padriñán is a sanctuary in Sanxenxo with a rectangular church supported by pointed stone arches and displaying a maritime style with a distinctive portico and rosette window. The interior holds several altarpieces from different periods, including an 18th-century Baroque high altar.

The sanctuary was founded in the 15th century and originally stood in Aldariz before being moved around 1670 to its present location near Sanxenxo port. This relocation marked an important shift in the settlement and religious life of the area.

The name honors Saint Genesius, a martyr held dear in local devotion and religious practice. Visitors can sense this connection through the altarpieces and the community gatherings that continue to define the place today.

The site is accessible during regular services and cultural exhibitions, with extended visiting hours in the summer months of July and August. It is helpful to check ahead for events to plan your visit properly.

During renovation work in 2016, workers discovered Renaissance-era frescoes over 500 years old in the Purification Chapel, along with burial sites bearing the coats of arms of founding families. These discoveries revealed that the chapel had preserved layers of local history hidden for centuries.
