Areas Beach, White sand beach in Sanxenxo, Spain

Areas Beach is a 700-metre-long white sand beach in Sanxenxo, on the ría de Pontevedra, 15 km from Pontevedra. It runs straight, curving at one end, and is bordered to the east by the small Cala dos Mortos, reachable at low tide, and by Punta Festiñanzo. Punta de Areas marks its eastern end, separating the inner ría from the outer one.

The sources record no founding date or historical events for Areas Beach. Its documented past is tied to Sanxenxo's growth as a summer resort on the Ría de Pontevedra, when the PO-308 coastal road made the 700-metre white-sand shore reachable. The beach now has a Blue Flag and a boat mooring area.

The restaurants nearby serve fresh seafood prepared using Galician recipes passed down through generations of fishing families. This culinary tradition ties the local way of life directly to the waters that surround the town.

The beach has showers, restrooms, and lifeguard cover during the main swimming season. A spacious parking area sits just behind the sand, making it convenient to access and spend time here.

At the eastern end, Punta de Areas marks the line between the inner and outer ría de Pontevedra, and the small Cala dos Mortos next to it can only be reached at low tide. Windsurfing is allowed only within 200 metres of the beach, and a mooring area for boats lies off the sand.
