Playa del Silgar

Playa del Silgar is an urban beach with light-colored sand spreading about 750 meters along the Ría de Pontevedra estuary. The seafloor slopes gradually, making it safe for swimmers and offering clear views across the water to distant shorelines.

This beach developed in the 1960s when Sanxenxo changed from a small fishing settlement into a major coastal destination in Galicia. The shift brought tourism infrastructure while maintaining the working port character that still defines the waterfront.

This beach serves as a working harbor where maritime traditions remain part of daily routines, with fishing boats and local commerce shaping how people interact with the waterfront. Visitors experience these traditions firsthand by watching boats at work and eating seafood from local catches in nearby establishments.

The beach offers showers, restrooms, and lifeguard supervision during summer months, with waterfront restaurants and shops just steps away. Expect crowds during summer season, while spring and fall tend to be less busy and more comfortable for swimming and walking.
