Läntinen Pihlajasaari, Recreational island in southern Helsinki, Finland

Läntinen Pihlajasaari is the western section of an island south of Helsinki featuring multiple beaches, forest paths, and rocky areas. The entire area spans across natural landscapes with varied terrain throughout.

In the early 1900s, the island was an important fishing harbor where fishermen built temporary structures. Later, it transformed into a recreation destination for the city.

The island hosts traditional Finnish saunas and outdoor cooking areas where visitors gather to spend time together. For many Helsinki residents, summer days here are part of everyday life.

The island is reached by ferry from mainland Helsinki, with regular services especially during summer months. The journey takes about 10 minutes and connects from multiple departure points.

Part of the island has designated areas for naturist swimming, which is an established practice in Finland. These zones are clearly marked and part of the regular recreation offering.
