Rokkiporkkana

Rokkiporkkana is a steel pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Jätkäsaari that stands out with its bright orange color and distinctive truss design. It spans Välimerenkatu and links two green spaces for people moving through the neighborhood.

The bridge opened in 2018 as part of a major transformation that converted Jätkäsaari from an industrial port area into a residential neighborhood. It became one of the first pieces of infrastructure designed specifically for this new urban district.

The name references a traditional Finnish vegetable variety, reflecting local identity in the neighborhood's design. Its bright color and form contribute to the playful character that defines this newer area.

The bridge is easy to access for both pedestrians and cyclists, with LED lighting along the railings for safety during evening hours. The surface is designed to handle all weather conditions that northern climates bring.

The structure was designed using advanced 3D modeling because its complex geometry made traditional drawings impossible to use during construction. This approach showcased how modern engineering can create landmarks that are both technically sophisticated and visually distinctive.
