Cable Factory, Arts centre in Salmisaari, Finland.
Cable Factory is an arts centre spanning 56,000 square meters across three connected buildings in Helsinki's Salmisaari industrial district. It houses studios, museums, galleries, and performance spaces all within the same complex.
The building operated as a cable manufacturing facility from 1943 to 1987 under Nokia's predecessor companies. Architect Wäinö Gustaf Palmqvist designed the complex for industrial production.
The complex houses three permanent museums: the Finnish Museum of Photography, Theatre Museum, and Hotel and Restaurant Museum. These collections reflect different aspects of Finnish culture and everyday life.
The complex opens most days, with different exhibition areas requiring separate admission fees. The Glass Courtyard serves as an orientation point and handles ticketing for all attractions.
The site retains the character of an authentic industrial location while contemporary art activities unfold within the original factory buildings. This blend of past and present creates an unusual working and visiting experience.
