Bunkkeri

Bunkkeri is a six-story concrete building with basement levels located in Helsinki's harbor area, featuring thick solid walls with a functional industrial design. The structure occupies a prominent spot in the Jätkäsaari district and is being transformed into a swimming and sports facility.

Built in 1972, the structure initially served as a storage facility for non-customs goods at West Harbor. The building later became a warehouse for Verkkokauppa.com before transitioning to its current redevelopment.

The building remains part of how locals and visitors move through the harbor district, serving as a landmark in the waterfront landscape.

The building is located in Jätkäsaari and can be reached via Tyynenmerenkatu, with connections to the Crusell Bridge. Visitors should be aware that redevelopment work is ongoing and some areas may not be fully accessible.

The redevelopment intentionally preserves portions of the original concrete framework, blending industrial heritage with modern sports use. This approach of keeping original structural elements while transforming the function is relatively uncommon in the harbor district.
