Ahvenkoski

Ahvenkoski is a historic site spanning two municipalities, Loviisa and Pyhtää, where the Kymi River flows through an area shaped by natural resources and historical structures. The location shows how the river landscape was used and occupied across different time periods.

From 1743 to 1809, this location served as a critical border crossing between Sweden and the Russian Empire, shaping regional development. Control of the crossing reflected broader political shifts that affected the surrounding area.
