Koskipuisto

Koskipuisto extends along the Tammerkoski rapids in downtown Tampere, with walking paths, grassy areas, and overlooks facing the flowing water. The park connects both sides of the riverbank and creates space for strolling and watching the river move through the city.

The park developed during the renovation of the Kyttälä district in the late 1800s, becoming central to the industrial landscape along the Tammerkoski rapids. Its creation was tied to Tampere's rise as an industrial city with factories lining the waterway.

The northern section of the park holds the 'Virvatulet' sculpture by Aimo Tukiainen, a memorial to Finnish soldiers that sits along the water's edge. Locals and visitors often pause here to reflect on the site's connection to the country's past.

The park is accessible on foot from several surrounding streets, with clear entry points throughout the area. A summer kiosk operates at the Koskikatu intersection, and public restrooms are available near the Kyttälänkatu junction.

Canadian poplars and white willows planted in the early 1900s still grow throughout the park and shape its appearance. Red canna lilies decorate the waterside paths each summer, adding color to the landscape.
