Hotel Tammer, Protected heritage hotel in Kyttälä A, Finland.
Hotel Tammer is a Nordic Classicism building in central Tampere, standing a short walk from the Tammerkoski rapids. The building rises several floors above street level and houses guest rooms, suites, a restaurant, and a bar.
The building was designed by architect Bertel Strommer and opened in 1929 to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of Tampere. It is now protected under Finnish law for the preservation of architectural heritage.
The hotel bar and restaurant have long been places where locals in Tampere meet for a drink or a meal, not just travelers passing through. The interiors still carry the feel of the interwar period, with wooden details and period furniture that give each room a distinct character.
The hotel sits in the heart of Tampere and is easy to reach on foot from the main train station. The restaurant and bar are open to non-guests, so you can visit the building even without a reservation.
When it opened in 1929, Hotel Tammer was one of the first buildings in Tampere to have elevators and running hot water in every room, which was considered a real luxury at the time. This made it the most modern hotel in the city for several decades.
