Selkee, Royal manor estate in Mouhijärvi, Finland
Selkee is a manor estate in Sastamala with a main building constructed in 1786 following the architectural designs of C.F. Schröder, situated overlooking Lake Mätikkö. The structure showcases classical style and forms the centerpiece of the surrounding grounds.
King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden established this manor in 1613, granting the land to Barbara Kinnard, widow of Scottish Colonel William Ogilwie. A devastating fire destroyed the original building in 1758, prompting the construction of the current structure decades later.
The manor served as a command post for the Pori Infantry Regiment commanders until 1793, representing military administrative traditions in Finland.
The estate covers approximately 3.5 hectares of grounds with views of the Lake Mätikkö landscape. The property is conveniently located near the main road connecting Tampere and Pori.
The estate had connections to Scottish noble lines through its founder Barbara Kinnard and later served as a command post for military commanders. This blend of foreign roots and local military administration shaped the place's distinctive role in the region.
