Sastamala, Municipality in Pirkanmaa, Finland

Sastamala is a municipality in the Pirkanmaa region that spreads on both sides of the Kokemäenjoki river. The area includes several villages and towns with a mix of rural landscapes and residential centers.

The municipality was formed in 2009 when the former towns of Vammala, Äetsä, and Mouhijärvi merged, with Kiikoinen joining in 2013. This consolidation created a larger administrative center for the region.

The Finnish Book Museum Pukstaavi displays exhibitions about Finnish literature and reading traditions. The collection provides insights into how books have shaped Finnish culture over time.

The municipality has good road connections and is easily accessible from larger cities in the region. Visitors can find accommodations and local services distributed throughout the residential areas.

The area comprises approximately 161 distinct villages scattered throughout the landscape. Most of the population lives in these rural areas, making it an unusually village-focused municipality.
