Puurijärvi-Isosuo National Park, Bird sanctuary and wetland area in Satakunta and Pirkanmaa, Finland
Puurijärvi-Isosuo National Park is a bird sanctuary and wetland preserve in Satakunta and Pirkanmaa with extensive swamp areas and interconnected lakes. These landscapes create habitats for migratory and year-round bird populations that visitors can observe throughout the seasons.
The park was established in 1993 to protect a landscape where Stone Age remains show that humans lived here thousands of years ago. The terrain evolved over millennia and retained its value as a vital habitat through the present day.
The park holds value for environmental learning, allowing visitors to see how Finnish wetlands function through marked trails and observation towers. People come here to observe rare bird species and understand the importance of these ecosystems in their daily experience.
The park offers three marked trails ranging from 500 meters to 2 kilometers, all leading to birdwatching towers for closer observation. Facilities along the paths include fire pits and dry toilets to support a comfortable visit.
The area contains rare raised bog formations found naturally only in coastal Finland, where European beavers make their homes. These bog landscapes develop under very specific conditions and remain uncommon across the region.
