James Finlayson established this cotton mill in 1820, which became the largest industrial employer in Nordic countries with over 3,000 workers.
The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas within the complex presents exhibitions about working class life during the industrial period of Tampere.
The former industrial buildings now house restaurants, shops, cafes, museums, and a cinema complex accessible through multiple entrances from downtown Tampere.
The Plevna weaving hall, built in 1877, introduced the first incandescent electric lighting system in Nordic countries using an Edison dynamo.
