Vuolenkoski, Rural village in Iitti, Finland.
Vuolenkoski is a village in Iitti municipality situated near the Kymi River, with lakes and forests characteristic of the Päijänne Tavastia region surrounding it. The settlement includes an elementary school, a sports field, a grocery store, and a seasonal waterfront restaurant called Rantamesta.
Ancient people left ochre rock paintings at the Karhusaaren Kylkiäinen headland, dating back approximately 6,600 years and indicating very early human presence in the area. The settlement developed gradually into a community with its own local structures over many centuries.
The summer market attracts hundreds of visitors on Saturday afternoons during the warm season, where locals sell fresh produce, crafts, and homemade goods from small stalls.
The village is compact and easy to explore on foot, with local shops and services arranged within walking distance. The seasonal waterfront restaurant opens during warmer months and provides a pleasant spot for visitors to spend time outdoors.
The village was awarded Village of the Year in 2014 for its success in building local infrastructure through community projects driven by volunteers. This recognition highlighted the residents' commitment to improving their own community.
