Syväranta, Lotta Museum
Syväranta is a museum building and local heritage site in Tuusula housed in a villa by Lake Tuusulanjärvi. The building was constructed in 1869, suffered fire damage in 1947, and was rebuilt in 1995 to match the original appearance based on historical photographs and documents.
The building was constructed in 1869 as a private villa, served as a guesthouse in the 1920s, and became a training center for the Lotta Svärd women's organization from the 1930s onward. After a fire destroyed it in 1947, it remained unused until its reconstruction and reopening as a museum in 1995.
The villa served as a gathering place where the Lotta Svärd women's organization met and conducted activities, making it a center of community life. The site represents how women organized themselves and took on responsibility within their society during the early-to-mid twentieth century.
The site is easy to access and offers accessible restrooms and parking for visitors. A small cafe and shop are available on-site, allowing you to rest and purchase souvenirs after exploring the grounds.
The villa was one of the first homes in Tuusula with electricity in the early twentieth century and featured a formal garden with exotic animals, making it a remarkably luxurious estate for its time. The digital Lotta Institute allows visitors to explore a 3D reconstruction of the original hall as it existed before the 1947 fire destroyed the building.
