Aulanko Castle

Aulanko Castle is a granite structure with towers and decorative elements situated on a hill within Aulanko Park. The building displays nineteenth-century architectural characteristics and offers views across the surrounding parkland.

Colonel Hugo Standertskjöld commissioned this ornamental castle in 1887, using waste stone from landscaping work at his Karlberg Manor estate. The structure was designed purely as a decorative element rather than a residence.

The castle grounds serve as an outdoor stage for children's performances during summer months, with stone walls creating a dramatic backdrop. This contemporary use blends the original decorative purpose with community gatherings.

The castle is accessible via marked trails throughout Aulanko Park, with parking available near the main entrance to the recreational area. The best time to visit is during warmer months when paths are easy to walk and the park is fully open.

Despite being built purely as a decorative element without residential purpose, the structure was designated as a registered archaeological site in Finland. This recognition shows how the country values ornamental constructions for their historical and architectural importance.
