Infantry Museum

The Infantry Museum occupies the former Mikkeli Old Barracks complex and displays military equipment, uniforms, and documents spanning different time periods. The collection documents the history of Finnish infantry forces with numerous original artifacts across multiple exhibition areas.

The museum developed from the need to preserve the history of Finnish infantry, especially experiences from the 20th century. The collection grew through donations from veterans and families who contributed their personal military memorabilia.

The exhibitions display uniforms and equipment that show what daily service looked like for Finnish infantry soldiers. These items help visitors understand how soldiers lived and what they carried during their deployments.

The museum is easy to locate from outside and features wheelchair-accessible entrances for visitors with mobility limitations. Guided tours are offered in several languages, and there are quiet areas for resting between galleries.

The collection holds personal letters and handwritten notes from soldiers that reveal how they experienced their time in service. These intimate documents give visitors direct insight into the feelings and thoughts of the men who served.
