Hiekkaharju water tower, Water tower in Hiekkaharju, Vantaa, Finland.
Hiekkaharju water tower rises 46 meters high and is supported by 15 steel box pillars clad in metal paneling. The structure houses two separate tanks with a combined capacity of 8,000 cubic meters to supply water to eastern Vantaa.
Following the collapse of Kangasvuori water tower in 2012, Helsinki Region Environmental Services accelerated construction of this facility in autumn 2017. This event prompted a necessary upgrade to water supply infrastructure in the region.
The tower's design, called Siluetti, uses perforated metal sheets that create visual reflections and glows with LED lighting at night, becoming a subtle landmark in the city.
The tower is visible from nearby roads and located in an accessible area of the city with good orientation landmarks. Its position makes it easy to spot from surrounding neighborhoods and approach routes.
The foundation of this structure ranks among the largest concrete slab foundations of its kind in Finland. This engineering choice was made to ensure stability for the tall tower across the ground beneath it.
