Fort de Bron

Fort de Bron is a polygonal fortification with deep moats and multiple buildings that once housed hundreds of soldiers. The structure displays typical 19th-century military architecture with casemates and bastions.

The fort was built between 1875 and 1877 as part of Lyon's second defensive ring following France's territorial losses in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War. This fortification was part of a broader strategy to protect the region.

The facility maintains two museums within its walls, offering exhibitions about military history and regional defense structures to visiting groups and individuals.

The fort can be visited through guided tours offered on specific days. The interior maintains a cool temperature year-round, so bring a light jacket.

The fortification required over three million francs to construct and featured 45 artillery pieces with cannons reaching targets up to 8 kilometers away.
