Château de Charly

The Château de Charly is a castle featuring a rectangular main structure flanked by two round towers on the north side and two square towers on the south side. The building displays a mix of medieval defensive elements and architectural features that were added during later periods of occupation.

The fortress was built in the early 14th century as a seigniorial residence and served the Miribolli family. Over subsequent centuries, it passed into the hands of various noble families who modified its structure and adapted it to their needs.

The Gadagne family and other noble houses shaped the building through modifications spanning the 15th to 17th centuries. These different periods of influence are visible in how various sections of the structure reflect the tastes and needs of each era.

The castle currently houses a private nursery school and is not open to visitors for interior tours. You can view the exterior of the building from public spaces to see its architectural features and tower arrangement.

In 1362 the fortress withstood an attack from the Tard-Venus, a medieval mercenary force, proving the strength of its defenses. This military episode demonstrates that the fortifications were taken seriously and reveals the castle's strategic importance during a period of regional conflict.
