Château de la Combe, 18th century château in Irigny, France
Château de la Combe is a classical 18th-century château featuring a large square central building with two floors, complemented by rectangular wing structures and entry pavilions on either side. The buildings are organized around a central approach to create a unified architectural composition.
Jean Pierre Croppet, lord of Irigny, commissioned this château in the early 1700s on lands that once belonged to the archbishops of Lyon. During the 1800s, the Bizouard de Montille family later modified the roofs and added a conical tower to update its appearance.
The name refers to the valley where the château sits. The building reflects how wealthy families of the 18th century lived, with its formal rooms and balanced layout.
The site sits roughly 10 minutes south of Lyon, offering easy access to the metropolitan area's amenities and services. Visiting on a weekday makes for a quieter experience when exploring the grounds and exterior architecture.
From 1998 to 2010, the outbuildings served as a filming location for the television series Louis la Brocante. This period as a film set gave the property a notable presence in local television history.
