Abbaye de Saint-Ruf d'Avignon

Saint-Ruf Abbey features a bell tower constructed with rubble stone at its base and dressed stone on the upper level, displaying twin openings with small columns.

Founded in the early 10th century, the abbey became the headquarters of the Saint-Ruf canons who spread their influence throughout Europe from the 11th century onwards.

The abbey served as a central hub for canonical reform in the 12th century, spreading its customs across France, Spain, Scandinavia, and southern Germany.

The abbey remains stand at 4 Boulevard Roux Renard in Avignon, near the Museum of Natural History and the Angladon Museum.

Future Pope Adrian IV joined this religious community before his elevation to the papacy, marking the abbey's connection to papal history.
