Bezonvaux

Bezonvaux is an abandoned commune in the Meuse region of northeastern France. The settlement exists today as scattered remains and empty spaces where buildings once stood.

Bezonvaux suffered severe destruction during World War I and was never fully rebuilt afterward. The village lay directly in the path of fighting during the Battle of Verdun, which devastated the surrounding region.

Access to the site is limited and the terrain is rough in places, so sturdy footwear is advisable. The area lacks regular facilities, so it is best visited as part of a broader exploration of World War I sites in the region.

The site remains one of the few completely abandoned villages in France, preserved largely as a memorial to those lost in the war. Walking through its empty spaces offers a direct encounter with the physical traces left by conflict.
