Castle of Ermenonville

The Castle of Ermenonville is a fortress with two lateral wings arranged around a central courtyard, surrounded by water-filled moats. The main structures face outward toward landscaped grounds and water features that frame the property.

The original fortress was built in 987 as a defensive structure to guard a key territory between two important regions. It was later transformed, and in the 1700s received its current garden layout that replaced earlier medieval designs.

The Italian automobile manufacturer Ettore Bugatti purchased the estate in 1932 and made it a hub for his design work during his years there. His presence connected the castle to the story of automotive innovation and industrial legacy in a way few visitors expect.
