Quint-Fonsegrives, Residential commune in Haute-Garonne, France
Quint-Fonsegrives is a commune located southeast of Toulouse in the Haute-Garonne department, within the arrondissement of Toulouse. The town is made up mostly of residential areas, bordered by farmland and gently rolling countryside.
The two hamlets of Quint and Fonsegrives existed as separate settlements in the Middle Ages before being joined into a single commune over time. Growth picked up in the 20th century as people moved out from Toulouse to settle in the surrounding area.
The name Quint-Fonsegrives joins two old village names: Quint refers to a medieval tax unit of five farms, while Fonsegrives comes from the Occitan word for a spring or well. Walking through the town today, you can still find older stone buildings that mark the original centers of these two separate settlements.
The commune sits close to Toulouse and is easy to reach by car or by local bus from the city. Once there, the streets are calm and walking between the older parts of town is a good way to get a sense of the place.
Part of the Via Tolosana, one of the historic pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, passes through the territory of the commune. Walkers following this old route today still cross this area on their way through southern France.
