City of Space, Space theme park and astronautical museum in Toulouse, France
The City of Space is a theme park and astronautical museum in Toulouse, France, that stretches across five hectares (12 acres) and presents life-size replicas of spacecraft, including the Mir station and an Ariane 5 launcher. The site comprises several exhibition pavilions with interactive stations, a planetarium and a cinema hall for large-format projections that bring outer space and its exploration closer to visitors.
The center opened in 1997 to share knowledge about space travel and honor the region's role in the aerospace industry. Later, new pavilions and exhibition areas were added to present technical advances and current missions.
The name reflects the aerospace heritage of the city, which remains part of the surrounding area's daily life. Visitors learn through guided tours and workshops how astronaut teams prepare for their missions.
The site offers parking, restaurants and picnic areas as well as complete wheelchair access to all exhibitions and attractions. Visitors should plan several hours to explore the pavilions, presentations and outdoor areas at a comfortable pace.
Visitors can examine real spacecraft components from European missions and follow the control of a Mars rover in a reconstructed control room. The site also presents simulated astronaut training that offers insights into the physical preparation for space missions.
