Fondation Maeght, Art museum in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France.
The Fondation Maeght is an art museum in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, presenting modern and contemporary art across multiple exhibition rooms, gardens, courtyards and terraces designed by architect Josep Lluís Sert. The site holds more than 13,000 works by artists such as Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti, Georges Braque and Alexander Calder, shown in rotating and permanent displays.
Marguerite and Aimé Maeght founded this independent art collection in 1964 after their son Bernard died and artist friends urged them to create the space. Catalan architect Josep Lluís Sert designed the entire complex so that daylight and the hilly Provence countryside flow into the layout.
Named after art dealers Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, the site weaves indoor galleries with outdoor spaces so that visitors move between halls and Mediterranean gardens. Sculptures, murals and mosaics are built into terraces and courtyards, blurring the line between building and artwork.
Visitors can join guided tours, use the café-restaurant Sous les Pins and browse the on-site bookshop, with free parking available. Exhibition areas are divided into several wings so you may choose individual galleries or walk the entire route including outdoor sections depending on your interest.
Each zone displays artistic interventions created specifically for that setting so that works are not simply exhibited but built into the grounds. A ceramic labyrinth by Joan Miró winds through one of the gardens, inviting visitors to view the sculptures from shifting angles.
