Hôtel de Sully, Private mansion in Le Marais, France
The property displays classic 17th-century French architecture with two rectangular courtyards between street and garden, flanked by service buildings and residential wings constructed from pale limestone with steep slate roofs and dormer windows.
Finance superintendent Mesme Gallet commissioned architect Jean Androuet du Cerceau to construct the property between 1625 and 1630, before Duke Maximilien de Béthune acquired it in 1634 and gave it his noble title.
The building has served as headquarters of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux since 1967 and hosts rotating exhibitions on architecture and heritage within its historic rooms, which are used for public events.
The address is 62 Rue Saint-Antoine in the 4th arrondissement, accessible via Metro line 1 at Saint-Paul or Bastille stations. Courtyards remain open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM, with exhibitions open Wednesday through Sunday.
The southern orangery connects the property through a passage to Place des Vosges and was returned to its 17th-century state during extensive restoration work completed in 1973.
