Château d'Oedenbourg, Medieval castle ruins in Orschwiller, France

The stone fortification stands 200 meters from Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, featuring Gothic windows and remains of defensive walls on a hilltop in Alsace.

Built around 1250 by Frederick of Buren, the castle belonged to the Rathsamhausen family until 1417 when it received its current name meaning Desert Castle.

The fortress represents the medieval military architecture of Alsace, with its strategic position allowing surveillance of the Rhine Valley and Val de Ville.

Access to the castle requires a five-minute walk from Haut-Koenigsbourg parking area through a marked forest trail leading to the ruins.

Archaeological excavations revealed 9th-century fortification remains beneath the current structure, indicating earlier military settlements at this strategic location.
