Château de Maupas

Château de Maupas is a castle set on a wooded hill in Morogues with stone structures mirrored in an adjacent pond. The residence is framed by French gardens at its base and features a medieval tower in its core area.

The estate was elevated to a marquisate in 1725 when King Louis XV consolidated the lands of Morogues, Maupas, and Parassy under the Agard family. Significant renovations in the 19th century brought major changes to the structure and furnishings.

The interior displays a collection of faience plates that reflect the tastes of 19th-century collectors interested in regional ceramics. These pieces show how wealthy families decorated their homes and what they valued in decorative arts.

Visitors can explore the grounds by following a tree-lined pathway that leads to the main courtyard and medieval tower area. The walk on foot through shaded paths makes comfortable shoes a good idea for your visit.

The Agard family has owned the property since 1688, maintaining continuous family ownership through more than three centuries. This continuity makes it a rare example of unbroken family stewardship in French estates.
