Château du Terreau, Medieval castle in Verosvres, France
Château du Terreau is a medieval castle in Verosvres featuring two round towers on its west side and stone balustrades along its terraces. The building contains a courtyard framed by two perpendicular wings, creating the enclosed layout typical of fortified noble residences.
Construction of this fortress began in the 13th century, establishing it as a defended noble residence. The Thibaud de Noblet family acquired it in the early 17th century and retained ownership through the period of the French Revolution.
The entrance gate displays carved stone lions bearing the coats of arms of two noble families who shaped this place. These heraldic symbols mark the presence of aristocratic lineages that left their mark on the property.
The castle functions as a private residence without regular public visiting hours, located in the Burgundy region. The exterior can be viewed from public access points, but the interior and grounds are not available for tours.
Dry moats still encircle the property, remnants of medieval defense systems. The grounds also contain a chapel, a French garden, and a 19th-century pavilion with a curved balcony attached to the north wing.
