Château de Mauriac

Château de Mauriac is a Renaissance castle in Douzillac overlooking the Isle River valley. The structure features two round defensive towers positioned on a terrace above the landscape, with classical Renaissance design elements visible throughout.

The castle began construction during the 15th century on foundations from earlier periods. It received official monument protection in 1948, with additional preservation measures added in 2016.

Michel de Montaigne visited this Renaissance castle in 1581 during his return journey from Italy, marking its connection to French intellectual history.

You can reach the castle grounds on foot through the surrounding area with good views across the valley. The terrace offers the best vantage point for seeing the landscape, especially on clear days when visibility extends across the region.

The vaulted cellar accommodates ceremonies for 150 guests, while the castle grounds can host events for up to 350 people with a 1000m² marquee option.
