Morcenx

The former commune of Morcenx extends across 162 square kilometers within the Grande Lande region, surrounded by the extensive Landes forest landscape.

In 1790, the administrative canton of Arjuzanx was established, and in 1888 its headquarters moved to Morcenx, leading to the creation of Canton de Morcenx.

The administrative center maintains multiple municipal services, including a cinema that screens contemporary films and organizes regular cultural events for local residents.

The division implements a Citizen Participation Budget system, enabling residents to propose and vote on community projects through the municipal administration platform.

The territory experienced substantial demographic changes, with its population reaching 12,230 in 1901 before stabilizing at approximately 4,400 residents in recent decades.
