Former School for naval medecine

The museum displays an extensive collection of medical instruments, anatomical specimens, and scientific equipment used for training naval surgeons in the nineteenth century.

Established in 1722, this institution served as the first naval medicine school worldwide, training surgeons for service aboard French warships until its closure in 1964.

The museum's library contains 25,000 volumes documenting maritime medical practices, scientific discoveries, and naval expeditions from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Visitors access the museum's three floors through guided tours, which explain the medical practices and training methods used in naval medicine education.

The preserved dissection room maintains its original appearance from 1890, complete with period surgical instruments and educational materials for medical instruction.
