Accattone, Movie theater in Latin Quarter, Paris, France
Accattone was a single-screen cinema located on Rue Cujas in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. The venue held around 120 seats and operated as an independent cinema before closing in 2020.
The cinema first opened in 1957 as Studio Cujas, replacing a former nightclub that had occupied the space. During the 1960s it became known through connections to influential French cinema figures.
French director François Truffaut managed the theater during the 1960s, contributing to its reputation in Parisian cinema circles.
The cinema was small and intimate, making it a cozy spot for a film experience in the Latin Quarter. As an independent venue, it typically offered different film programming than larger multiplex chains elsewhere in Paris.
After a renovation in 1987, it transformed into a cultural space that included a bookshop, bar, and art gallery alongside the screening room. This expansion turned it into a multi-purpose venue for art and cinema lovers in the neighborhood.
