The National Arboretum of Barres extends across 35 hectares and maintains 2,600 different plant species, including 109 oak varieties and 90 maple types.
Founded in 1873 on the former Vilmorin family estate, this botanical institution has grown through contributions of numerous scientists and researchers.
The arboretum organizes its collections into three main sections: Continentalis, Classifica, and Bizarretum, representing trees from five continents.
Visitors can access the gardens from March 25 to November 5, with adult admission at 5 euros and guided tours available daily at 3:00 PM.
The grounds feature a 46-meter sequoia tree and an exceptional Thuja specimen with 80 separate trunks growing from a single base.
