Château de la Forêt

Château de la Forêt is a castle in Montcresson with a rectangular layout featuring two main stories and decorative brick details running across its north and south sides. Three defensive towers from its original fortified enclosure remain standing on the grounds, creating a mix of medieval and later additions.

The castle was built in the 16th century by the Boileau family on top of ancient remains, then passed to the Machault family in 1627. A major historical figure later modified the building in the 19th century through significant renovations.

The castle served as a residence for prominent families whose choices shaped the appearance and use of the building over time. The rooms and grounds reflect the preferences and lifestyle of those who lived here across different periods.

Visitors should expect uneven floors and older stairs since this is a historic structure with centuries of use. Wearing comfortable shoes and allowing time to explore the outdoor areas will enhance your experience.

The northern facade still displays original stone and brick window frames that have survived centuries of weathering. These older elements create an interesting contrast with the window openings added later to other parts of the building.
