Basilique Saint-Gervais d'Avranches

The Basilique Saint-Gervais is a minor basilica in Avranches featuring a blend of Renaissance Revival and Neoclassical design. Its most striking feature is the tall bell tower crowned with an octagonal dome, while the interior houses various religious furnishings and sacred objects.

An earlier church from the 1600s stood on this site but fell into disrepair over the centuries. The current structure was built in 1843, and its distinctive western section and bell tower were added during expansion work between 1890 and 1899.

The basilica takes its name from Saints Gervais and Protais, two figures central to local religious life and devotion. Visitors can observe how the interior layout and decorations reflect the importance these saints hold within the community's spiritual traditions.
